Moter
2 An art motor is running in
Rhodes
It has been
running for the past eight months. This is the
second time it is being organised. An event that aims to
become a real motor vehicle for contemporary art. Born
in Rhodes, like some art manifesto, it wishes to help
young artists enter the art scene, as well as, to pay
tribute to the older ones. 330 consecutive days of art
are about to end soon. Though Moter 2 is still
running...
More specifically, Moter 2 (an acronym of
the Greek phrase "Modern Art in Rhodes"), resulted out
of an actual need in the island of Rhodes: to promote
contemporary art. Amonsgt other important goals this
mostra attempts to debag the elite profile of art, to
pay attention to the artistic proccess and not only to
the artistic product and become an annual event where
new ideas and contemporary art works are presented
together.
Thus, after last year's Moter 1, Moter 2 has been in full function
since October 5, 2002. Its significant difference this
year, is that it lasts longer since it includes more
participant artists, who are not local
ones.
Furthermore, having done pretty well last
year, this year's event discovers, transforms and moves
forth, towards more ambitious destinations.
The programme of Moter 2
includes 21 solo and 1 group exhibitions. On top of
that, lectures, workshops and parallel events are also
taking place.
In specific, since the beginning of
the event, artists Alkisti Michailidou, Damon
Papakiriakou, Magdalene Kourti, Martha Dimitropoulou,
Christos Ponis, Ioanna Hatzidiakou, Yorgos Kouroupas,
Captain Fly, Maud Guterstam, Koumou, Nikos
Papadimitriou, Tasos Papadogonas, Angelos Spartalis,
E2.13, Maria Anezia and Angelos Michailidis have already
exhibited in solo.
The artists that exhibit until
September 5, 2003, are: Elli Gravalou (28/06-11/07),
Kyourh (12-25/07), Panagiots Brademas (26/07-08/8),
Ourania Volonaki (09-22/08) and Tasso (23/08-05/09).
Their exhibitions coincide with this year's "Summer 2003
in Rhodes" festivities organized by the Cultural
Organization of the Municipality of Rhodes.
With
various styles and diverse expressive means (painting,
sculpture, photography, installations, art
constructions, video and digital art) the 21 artists of Moter 2
approach to common domains of interest since reality, as
well as, their problematic sometimes conlude at the same
point.
These common thematic units are: Water
Element and Technology, Dream and Fairy tale, Landscapes
and Textures, Human Reflections, Materials and
Criticism and Consumption and
Identity. NL |
