		«FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON», recent paintings by Angelos Spartalis at KOZAS Gallery On Saturday 26 June at 19:00 opens in KOZAS Gallery, Rhodes, the new painting exhibition by Angelos Spartalis “from the Earth to the Moon”. The exhibition will last 15 days and is held under the auspices of ECOFILMS International Film Festival. There will be large scale works - oils on canvas (160 x 130 cm)- as well as smaller works on paper. Spartalis writes about his work: My new painting series “From the Earth to the Moon” revolves around the television broadcast of the U.S. space flight Apollo 11 landing on the Moon. I focused on the not so remote but definitely salutary year 1969 and going a back and forth in time I put on canvas or paper images that made history, just as a royal court painter would in another era before the invention of photography. As I always mix up things around me and inside me, I blended the Moon and Vietnam, Kennedy and Woodstock, The Beatles, our very own YENED (Greek National Television of the 70’s – 80’s) and the speech of dictator Georgios Papadopoulos as well as a Christie’s sale of Van Goghs and even … “Space Invaders”. These paintings were created in the same time as the homonymous 90 min. long animation film that I have been working on based on the book by Jules Verne. Animation and painting, painting and animation are entwined so that the keyboards of my computers are constantly stained with oil paint and my paintings become “pixelated”. The first part of the series will be presented on the 26th of June in the city of Rhodes, at the gallery of Dimitris Kozas and his wife Stella, tireless collaborators and good friends. The exhibition is held under the auspices of ECOFILMS Film Festival which is organized by the “little devil” as we say in Crete, Lucia Rikaki. Who could imagine a better context for these paintings? As Barbican, the protagonist in Verne’s book would have put it: “Up to the Moon! Let’s go up to the sky my fellow cannoneers!” Bon Voyage! During the exhibition at KOZAS Gallery, Spartalis’ short film “The Awesome Storm Man” starring Stratos Tzortzoglou will be shown in the International Competition at ECOFILMS Festival. The screening will take place on Tuesday 22nd of June at RODON open air cinema. after the Festival’s opening ceremony which starts at 21:00.
